This weekend a friend and I went to the Blue Cat Cafe in Austin, Texas. I am a previous cat owner(he ran away in December 2015) so I was really excited to spend part of my Saturday petting some kitties. The cafe made its debut on October 17, 2015 and is partnered with the Austin Humane Society; so most of the cats at the cafe are available for adoption. When you come you have to pay a small fee just for entering but it’s all good because that fee goes to helping the cats. I think the fee was $3 for adults and $1 or $2 for children if I recall correctly.
Blue Cat Cafe is a 100% vegan friendly restaurant with some yummy sounding dishes to choose from. We only got chips and salsa($2) because to be honest I had the biggest craving for a P.Terry’s cheeseburger. If we go another time then I’ll make a point to try an actual dish. Since it is a cafe, there are tons of drinks to choose from iced to hot. The highest price on the menu was $8.50 with most items ranging around the $7-$8 range so the prices were pretty affordable. With one bottled water($1), chips and salsa, and a combined $6 entry fee the total came to be around $9. No complaints here!!
When you first walk into the cafe you will enter the retail shop. There are things to purchase for cats as well as things to purchase for you. Another cool thing to note when you enter is the painted cat portraits sitting up on the wall of the cats available to be adopted. Very cute! The cafe itself has funky decorations all over and is really neat to see. I didn’t go see but my friend said that the bathrooms are just as funky with a bunch of cat facts posted all over the walls. The cats themselves were of course adorable! Some were feisty, some were lazy, some were crazy, one cat stole my friends seat when he got up and that cat really didn’t give a you know what about it. Everyone around us thought it was hilarious.
You should definitely check this place out if you’re in the Austin area. It is a new addition to the city but I’m sure it will be treasured for years to come.
